FAQs

What is an elective 3D/4D Ultrasound?

An elective 3D/4D prenatal ultrasound is a more detailed and three-dimensional image than traditional black and white 2D imaging. 4D means four-dimensional, the fourth dimension being time, which provides a moving image or video. 3D/4D is an experience that can provide a positive bonding experience for Mother, Father and family members of the unborn baby.

What is a good time to do a 3D/4D Ultrasound?

We can provide beautiful 3D/4D images at all gestations but between 27-32 is the BEST TIME for a singleton because baby is fully developed and facial features are well defined. At this gestational age baby still has adequate room to move around and obtain optimal images.

When can you determine the gender of my baby?

We can determine gender starting at 15 weeks gestation.

Will you be able to determine the gender of my baby?

In MOST cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby. We can NOT guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as position, placental placement, developmental stage, mother’s body tissue content can all affect the ability to determine sex. We pride ourselves on using tips like eating something with sugar, emptying the bladder or moving from side to side to get baby to change positions, but it all depends on your baby. However, we promise we will always do our best!

What determines the quality of my images?

Water! It is very important that you are well hydrated and drinking more than usual ONE WEEK prior to your ultrasound. Being hydrated is directly related to the quality of ultrasound images, especially 3D/4D images. Also pay attention to what types of food/drink affect your baby’s movement and utilize that before your ultrasound if possible.

Is ultrasound safe?

Detailed studies over 40 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harmful bio effects to mother or baby. Ultrasound uses sound waves with no radiation to create an image.

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) has issued the following statement regarding the safety of ultrasound:

"There are no confirmed adverse biological effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposures from diagnostic ultrasound instruments. Although the possibility exists that such biological effects may be identified in the future, current data indicate that the benefits to patients of the prudent use of diagnostic ultrasound outweigh the risks, if any, that may be present."

Do I need an appointment?

YES. All of our sessions are by appointment only. Please refer to our information about when is the best time for you to come in for your ultrasound. For weekend, holiday and evening appointments we especially encourage you to schedule in advance.

Can we have friends and family come to our ultrasound?

Yes! We encourage our clients to invite family and friends to attend the ultrasound session. This is a wonderful experience that we would like to share with all of your loved ones!
